This day begins with a drive from Arusha or Moshi at around 8:00 am to Momella Gate. After a short registration at the Gate, your 3-day Mount Meru trek tour starts with a fully armed ranger escorting you. This is necessary due to the potential encounters with wild animals, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and often elephants along the route. Lunch can be enjoyed at the famous “Fig tree”. By mid-afternoon, you'll have your first close view of the towering cliffs and the Ash Cone. The journey entails a steep one-hour ascent to Rhino Point (3,800m / 12,467ft), followed by trekking along a ridge of ash and rock to reach Cobra Point (4,350m / 14,272ft). The summit of Socialist Peak (4,566 m) lies an hour further along a steep path. Depending on your pace, you can witness the sunrise at either Cobra Point or the summit. Upon reaching the summit, marvel at the spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape.
