Our 4-day journey begins with the descent to the beginning of the Gran Barranco, a huge gorge. Then we come out steeply, up the Great Wall of the Ravine, which separates us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. It's a walk on rocks, not technical but long and tiring. We drive under the Heim and Kersten glaciers towards the Karanga Valley. From here we have a steep climb up the Karanga Valley to our overnight camp at Karanga Camp. If you are feeling strong, we can do a acclimatization hike to around 4200m in the afternoon before descending back to camp for the night.

It's a tough and steep hike, made difficult by the altitude. Arriving at Barafu Camp, we eat and spend the afternoon resting as we prepare for a long night and day. It's important to stay hydrated and warm. We will have an early dinner and then try to get some sleep as we will get up between 11pm and 12pm to start the trek to the top of Uhuru Peak.
