This 6 days Rongai Route Climbing Kilimanjaro is the one among the shortest tour to hike Mount Kilimanjaro for a successful summit at 5895m which offers a unique wilderness experience, and it skips the acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarm, therefore makes a long day hiking from second cave camp to kibo hut before summit, this lead to reduce a chance to summit. The departure will be done from Moshi to Nale Moru Gate and starts from the northern side of the mountain to the gate passing through Simba Camp – Second Cave - Third Cave Camp – Kibo Huts – Summit (Uhuru Peak) – Marangu Gate - back to Moshi.

Day 1: Moshi- Rongai gate- Simba Camp.

The first day of the Rongai trek begins at the Rongai gate, which is located on the northern side of Kilimanjaro. After completing the necessary registration procedures, the trek starts by walking through farmland and pine forest. The trail then enters a vast stretch of moorland where you will see views of the summit. After a few hours of trekking, you will reach the Simba campsite, where you will rest and spend the night.

Hiking time: 4-5 hours

Overnight Altitude: 9,300 ft.

Day 2: Simba Camp - Kikelewa Camp

After breakfast, the trek continues through the moorland, where you will have a chance to see the Mawenzi peak, you will then reach the second cave, which is the halfway point to Kibo. The trek then climbs steadily towards the Kikelewa campsite, which is located at the edge of the moorland zone. Here, you will rest and spend the night.

Day 3: Kikelewa Camp - Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

This day’s trek begins by crossing a stream, then moving into a semi-desert terrain towards the Mawenzi Tarn campsite. The campsite is located below Mawenzi peak and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Here, you will rest and spend the night.

Hiking time: 3-4 hours

Acommodation: Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn Camp - Kibo Hut

After breakfast, the trek continues towards Kibo Hut. The trail passes through the “saddle,” which is the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. As you trek through this area, you will notice a change in vegetation from alpine desert to a rocky lunar landscape. After reaching Kibo Hut, you will rest and prepare for the summit climb.

Hiking time: 6-8hours

Overnight Altitude: 15,430ft.

Acommodation: Kibo Hut

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak - Horombo Hut.

This is the summit day. The trek begins in the early hours of the morning (around midnight) and heads up to Gilman’s point on the crater rim, where you will watch the sunrise. From Gilman’s point, the trek continues to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa. You will then begin the descent back to Kibo Hut for a rest and a meal before continuing down to Horombo Hut for the night.

Hiking time: 6-8hours

Overnight Altitude: 12,205ft

Acommodation: Horombo Hut

Day 6: Horombo Hut - Rongai Gate- Moshi

After reaching the Mandara hut, you will then trek back to the Rongai gate, where you will sign out and receive your summit certificates. Your trek is complete, and you can celebrate your achievement

The Rongai Route requires the fewest days (6), but when arrival and departure days are factored in, the total number of days required is 9 or 10. However, because it is the easiest route on the mountain, it is best completed over 7 days to increase your chances of success.
