The Marangu Route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. It is also known as the "Coca-Cola" route due to its relative ease and availability of amenities along the way. The route typically takes about 5 days to complete, although some climbers may choose to extend it to 6 days for better acclimatization. The Marangu Route starts at the Marangu Gate, located on the southeastern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. This gate is easily accessible from Moshi, a town in Tanzania that serves as a base for many climbers. The trail initially passes through dense rainforest, offering a lush and scenic environment. As climbers ascend, they will gradually transition into moorland and eventually reach the alpine desert zone.

The Marangu Route involves hiking from the Marangu Gate (1,860 meters) to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters). This section is relatively easy and takes around 4-5 hours to complete. Along the way, climbers can enjoy sightings of various wildlife, including monkeys and colorful bird species. Mandara Hut provides basic accommodation facilities such as bunk beds and communal dining areas.
the day start with hiking from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters). This section takes approximately 5-6 hours and covers a distance of around 11 kilometers. The trail becomes steeper as climbers ascend through heathland and moorland zones. Horombo Hut offers similar accommodation facilities as Mandara Hut but at a higher altitude.
Start hiking from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,703 meters). This section is more challenging and takes around 6-7 hours to complete. Climbers will pass through the alpine desert zone, characterized by rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. Kibo Hut is the last accommodation point before the final summit push and offers basic facilities such as dormitory-style sleeping arrangements and dining areas.

This section is physically demanding and mentally challenging due to the high altitude and steep incline. From Gilman's Point, climbers continue along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. The descent to Horombo Hut usually takes around 4-5 hours, where climbers can rest before continuing down.
Descend from Horombo hut through the rainforest, retracing your steps back to the Marangu Gate. Complete the necessary paperwork, collect your summit certificate, and celebrate your achievement. Transported back to Moshi for departure
