Begin the hike through the lush rainforest.
Reach Mandara Hut for an overnight stay.
Continue through the rainforest, which gradually gives way to heath and moorland.
Pass through the Maundi Crater.
Reach Horombo Hut for an overnight stay.
Spend the day resting and acclimatizing.
Optional hike to Zebra Rocks for acclimatization
Ascend through the alpine desert.
Pass by the Last Water Point.
Arrive at Kibo Hut, the basecamp for the summit attempt.
Begin the ascent in the early hours of the morning (around midnight).
Trek up steep and challenging terrain to Gilman's Point (5,681 m/18,638 ft).
Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
