Elevation: From 1,800 metres (5,905 feet) to 3,000 metres (9,840 feet)

The trek begins at the Machame Gate, where you will complete registration and meet your guide and porters.

Start the hike through the rainforest, which is often muddy and steep.

After approximately 5-7 hours of hiking, you will reach Machame Camp, where you'll spend the night.

Elevation: From 3,000 metres (9,840 feet) to 3,840 metres (12,600 feet)

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heather moorland zone.

Ascend along a steep ridge and cross several ravines before reaching Shira Camp.

Hiking time is about 4-6 hours.

Elevation: From 3,840 metres (12,600 feet) to 3,950 metres (12,960 feet)

Today's hike takes you to Lava Tower at 4,630 metres (15,190 feet), where you'll experience some acclimatisation before descending to Barranco Camp.

The total hiking time is about 6–8 hours.

Begin the day with a challenging scramble up the Barranco Wall, which is not a technical climb but requires some effort.

After reaching the top of the Barranco Wall, the trail levels out as you hike through the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp.

Hiking time is about 4-5 hours.

Elevation: From 4,035 metres (13,200 feet) to 4,600 metres (15,100 feet)

Continue the trek to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.

The hike is relatively short but steep, and you should rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Hiking time is about 3–4 hours.

Elevation: From 4,600 metres (15,100 feet) to 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) at Uhuru Peak, then descend to 3,100 metres (10,170 feet) at Mweka Camp.

Start the summit attempt around midnight to reach the summit, Uhuru Peak, for the sunrise.

The trek is challenging and takes about 6–8 hours to reach the summit.

After enjoying the sunrise from the top of Africa, begin the descent to Mweka Camp.

The total hiking time for the day is about 10–14 hours.
