Altitude: 1,800 meters (5,905 feet) to 3,010 meters (9,875 feet)
The trek begins at Machame Gate, and you'll hike through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro. The first day is relatively easy, and you'll spend the night at Machame Camp.
Altitude: 3,010 meters (9,875 feet) to 3,840 meters (12,600 feet)
The trail takes you out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone. You'll cross the Shira Plateau and reach Shira Camp for the night.
Altitude: 3,840 meters (12,600 feet) to 3,950 meters (12,960 feet) Lava Tower (4,600 meters/15,092 feet) for acclimatization and descent to Barranco Camp at 3,950 meters (12,960 feet)
Today involves climbing up to Lava Tower for acclimatization and then descending to Barranco Camp. The Barranco Camp is situated in a beautiful valley beneath the imposing Barranco Wall.
Altitude: 3,950 meters (12,960 feet) to 4,035 meters (13,200 feet)
You'll conquer the Barranco Wall, a steep section that requires some scrambling. Afterward, you'll trek across the alpine desert and reach Karanga Camp.
Altitude: 4,035 meters (13,200 feet) to 4,680 meters (15,350 feet)
Today, you'll make your way to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. It's a relatively short day to allow for rest and preparation for the summit push.
Altitude: 4,680 meters (15,350 feet) to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) at Uhuru Peak, then descent to 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) at Mweka Camp.
At midnight, you'll begin your summit ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. After watching the sunrise from the summit, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp and continue further down to Mweka Camp for the final overnight on the mountain.
Altitude: 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) to 1,640 meters (5,380 feet) at Mweka Gate
On the last day, you'll descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. After reaching the gate and completing the necessary formalities, you'll receive your summit certificate. Then, you'll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha to celebrate your achievement.
