The 9-day Kilimanjaro climbing Northern Circuit route offers an exceptional and less crowded experience, making it an ideal choice for adventurers seeking a high summit success rate. The route provides ample time for acclimatisation, increasing the chances of reaching the "Roof of Africa," Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The best time for this trek is during the dry season, from December to February or June to October, when the weather is most favourable. The Northern Circuit route is considered one of the most scenic routes, passing through diverse landscapes from lush rainforests to alpine deserts and glaciers. However, it is a challenging climb, and participants should be in good physical condition with some trekking experience. The cost varies depending on the tour operator and the level of service provided, but on average, it ranges from $2,800 to $5,000 per person. Climbers will be accompanied by experienced guides and a team of porters, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the journey.

The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, the starting point of the Northern Circuit route. After completing registration formalities, the trek commences through lush rainforests filled with a rich variety of flora and fauna. The day's hike is relatively gentle, culminating at Mti Mkubwa Camp, where trekkers set up their tents for the first night on the mountain.
The trail ascends gradually through the moorland zone, granting hikers glimpses of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. Shira 1 Camp offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and serves as an ideal spot for acclimatisation.
The route leads trekkers to higher elevations, entering the alpine desert zone. As the vegetation thins out, the path becomes more rugged and rocky. Moir Hut, situated in the shadows of Lent Hills, provides a tranquil setting for trekkers to rest and acclimatise.
This part of the journey offers spectacular views of the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. The trek leads to Buffalo Camp, located beneath the towering cliffs of the Breach Wall.
Today's trek takes trekkers through the remote northern section of the mountain. Pofu Camp, which means "buffalo" in Swahili, is situated in an area where buffalo are occasionally spotted.
The trail gradually descends, offering trekkers a break from the challenging terrain. Third Cave Camp provides a picturesque setting with stunning views of the vast plains below.
The final ascent to the summit begins, leading trekkers into the high-alpine desert zone. The school hut serves as the last campsite before the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the challenging night ahead.
The summit push commences in the early hours of the morning to witness the magical sunrise from the summit. The path to Stella Point is steep and demanding, leading to the crater rim. From there, trekkers proceed to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating their achievement, the descent begins to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
The final leg of the journey takes trekkers through the dense rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here, climbers receive their summit certificates and bid farewell to their mountain crew. A transfer to Moshi concludes the remarkable Kilimanjaro adventure.
