On the first day, the journey begins at Marangu Gate, situated at an altitude of 1800 meters (5905 feet). After completing the necessary registration procedures and meeting your guides and porters, the hike commences through the enchanting rainforest. This leg of the hike spans approximately 8.3 kilometers (5.2 miles) and takes around 4 to 6 hours to complete. As you ascend, the trail gradually guides you through varying vegetation zones, from rainforest to heath and moorland. The day's trek concludes at Mandara Hut, nestled at an elevation of 2743 meters (9000 feet), where you'll rest and prepare for the next day's adventure.

The initial destination is Horombo Hut, located at an altitude of 3700 meters (12139 feet). Covering around 11.8 kilometers (7.3 miles), this segment of the hike typically takes 5 to 7 hours to complete. Along the way, the landscape transforms from moorland to alpine desert, with the air growing thinner as you ascend. After reaching Horombo Hut, you'll take a break to absorb the breathtaking scenery and acclimatize to the higher elevation. Subsequently, the descent begins towards Marangu Gate, positioned at 1700 meters (5577 feet). The journey covers approximately 18.6 kilometers (11.6 miles) and takes another 5 to 7 hours. At the gate, you'll finalize your hike, sign out, and receive any well-deserved summit certificates. This marks the completion of the Marangu Route experience, a testament to your determination and adventure.
