Later you will enjoy an afternoon game drive and a Visit to the rhino sanctuary where you can feed the tamed black rhino in a specially created feeding platform. . Black rhinos are by nature very aggressive and territorial and this will probably be your only opportunity to ever getting close to one of these magnificent and endangered creatures. On this day you will have a full day game drive with a visit to the Chimpanzee sanctuary. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is the only place in Kenya where these highly endangered and incredibly intelligent primates can be found. The sanctuary provides a haven for orphaned and abused chimpanzees that enjoy roaming freely in their vast natural enclosure. Many of the chimps that are taken to the sanctuary have been orphaned due to the abuse of man, and often arrive traumatised and ill. Through hard work and dedication, the staff assists the chimps in their rehabilitation and integration into one of the two groups within the reserve. The chimpanzees here can never be reintroduced into the wild and guests can 'adopt' one for a fee. The revenue collected goes back into the sanctuary to aid its ongoing operations.
After breakfast, you will check out and join our tour driver for yet another day of experience. He will drive you from the Laikipia plains down the rift valley escarpments to the floor of the valley where Lake Nakuru National park lies. Here you will check in to your lodge and have lunch after which you will tour the Lake Nakuru National Park. Created in 1961 to protect the alkaline lake of the same name, the park offers typical plains vegetation. Located 156 km northwest of Nairobi, Lake Nakuru derives its name from the Masai word "Enakuro" which means cloud of dust. It is home to many herbivores including Rothschild's giraffe, buffalo, hippo, gazelle and nearly 55 mammals including lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, rock hyraxes and reedbuck. Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for hosting both white and black rhinoceros, reintroduced after many years’ absence.
After breakfast, you will leave Nakuru for the Masai Mara National Reserve, the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya. Covering an area of 1510 km², the Masai Mara reserve is in fact the extension in Kenyan territory of the vast Serengeti Park in Tanzania. Together, they constitute a huge ecosystem in which animals move freely. All large African animals are present. Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, impala, Kirk’s dik-dik, bushbuck, topi, buffalo, ellipsen waterbuck, eland and giraffe, all are there. Famous for its rich wildlife, the Masai Mara is home to not only the "Big 5" (elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino and leopard) but also many birds (over 500 species of birds have been recorded). Along the rivers, crocodiles and hippos lie in wait. Composed of vast rolling plains and hills, the Masai Mara is dotted with umbrella thorn acacias and thorny thickets. In the Maa language, Mara means "spotted" and may refer to the colorful landscapes. Alternatively, the name may refer to the arrival of over two million herbivores during the annual migration (wildebeest, gazelles and zebras). After Check-In, Lunch will be served at the lodge and later in the afternoon you will commence your Mara Experience with a game drive.
After an early morning breakfast, you will spend the full day on game drives exploring this spectacular reserve which together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible and most spectacular eco-system and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-systems. Your driver guide will be in constant communication with a radio call to locate where the major sightings might be. With luck, you might be able to locate all the big five. You will drive back to the lodge for lunch and later an afternoon game drive.
