Distance: approximately 11 kilometers
Terrain: The trail starts through dense rainforest, gradually becoming steeper as you climb. It's a challenging day with significant elevation gain.
Elevation: From 2,940 meters to 3,950 meters (with a descent to 3,900 meters)
Distance: Around 6 kilometers
Terrain: The route continues through the forest, then ascends to the Umbwe Ridge. You'll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. The day ends with a descent to Barranco Camp.
Elevation: From 3,900 meters to 4,800 meters
Distance: approximately 5 kilometers.
Terrain: This day involves a steep ascent up the Barranco Wall, which is challenging but rewarding. The trail then traverses across valleys and ridges to reach Arrow Glacier Camp.
Elevation: From 4,800 meters to 5,740 meters
Distance: Around 4 kilometers
Terrain: The trail climbs steadily, passing the Western Breach, a dramatic and exposed section. This day is physically demanding due to the altitude and steepness.
Elevation: From 5,740 meters (Uhuru Peak) to 3,100 meters (Mweka Camp)
Distance: approximately 12 kilometers of ascent, followed by 10 kilometers of descent.
Terrain: You'll start early to reach the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The ascent is challenging due to the altitude, but the feeling of accomplishment upon reaching the summit is unparalleled. After enjoying the views, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
