Hiking distance: 7km (4.3 miles).
Time: 3–4 hours
Start the trek at the Lemosho Gate and walk through the lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Elevation: 2,750m (9,022ft) to 3,505m (11,499ft)
Hiking distance: 8km (5 miles).
Time: 5–6 hours
Ascend through the rainforest and then into the heather and moorland zone, arriving at Shira 1 Camp.
Elevation: 3,505m (11,499ft) to 3,840m (12,598ft)
Hiking distance: 8km (5 miles).
Time: 4-5 hours
Continue hiking through the rocky terrain and heather zones, and camp at Shira 2 Camp.
Elevation: 3,840m (12,598ft) to 3,960m (13,000ft) at Lava Tower, then descend to 3,960m (13,000ft) at Barranco Camp.
Hiking distance: 10km (6.2 miles).
Time: 6-7 hours
Hike to Lava Tower for acclimatisation and then descend to Barranco Camp in the Great Barranco Wall area.
Elevation: 3,960m (13,000ft) to 4,035m (13,200ft)
Hiking distance: 5.5km (3.4 miles).
Time: 4-5 hours
Cross the Barranco Wall and hike through the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp for additional acclimatisation.
Elevation: 4,035m (13,200ft) to 4,680m (15,350ft)
Hiking distance: 3.5km (2.2 miles).
Time: 3–4 hours
Ascend to Barafu Camp, the last camp before the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the summit night.
Elevation: 3,100m (10,170ft) to 1,640m (5,380ft)
Hiking distance: 10km (6.2 miles).
Time: 3–4 hours
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificates and say goodbye to your climbing team.
Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for celebrations and some well-deserved rest.
