The Kilimanjaro joining group begins at the Machame Gate, where climbers register and receive a briefing about the trek. After completing the formalities, the group start pass on a scenic hike through lush rainforest, characterized by towering trees and vibrant vegetation. The trail is well-marked and offers opportunities to spot unique wildlife, including various bird species and monkeys. The ascent is gradual, allowing climbers to acclimatize to the altitude while enjoying the rich biodiversity of the forest. After approximately 5-7 hours of trekking, the group arrives at Machame Camp (3,000 meters), where they set up tents and enjoy a hearty dinner under the stars.
On Day 2 of Kilimanjaro joining, climbers leave Machame Camp and continue their ascent towards Shira Camp. The trail transitions from rainforest to moorland, offering stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s summit as well as expansive vistas of the surrounding landscape. This segment of the trek takes about 4-6 hours and includes some steep sections that challenge climbers’ endurance. Upon reaching Shira Camp (3,840 meters), participants can relax and take in breathtaking views of Kibo Peak while acclimatizing to higher altitudes. The camp provides an excellent opportunity for stargazing after dinner
Day 3 is designed for acclimatization and involves a trek that ascends to Lava Tower (4,600 meters) before descending to Barranco Camp (3,960 meters). This day is crucial for helping climbers adjust to altitude changes. The hike takes approximately 7-8 hours and features diverse landscapes ranging from rocky terrain near Lava Tower to lush vegetation around Barranco. At Lava Tower, climbers can explore this impressive geological formation before descending back down towards Barranco Camp. This strategy helps prevent altitude sickness by allowing climbers to experience higher elevations without spending the night there
After a hearty breakfast at Barranco Camp, Day 4 begins with a challenging climb known as “Barranco Wall,” which requires some scrambling but rewards climbers with spectacular views of the mountain and surrounding valleys. Following this ascent, trekkers descend slightly before continuing towards Karanga Camp (4,030 meters). This section takes about 4-5 hours and allows for further acclimatization while enjoying panoramic vistas along the way. Once at Karanga Camp, climbers can rest and prepare for their final push toward summit day
Summit day is one of the most best parts of climbing Kilimanjaro during Kilimanjaro joining group Machame. Climbers start early in the morning from Karanga Camp towards Barafu Camp (4,640 meters), taking about 3-4 hours to reach their next base camp. After resting briefly at Barafu, participants will prepare for their summit attempt later that night or early morning. The actual summit push begins around midnight or shortly thereafter; trekkers ascend through steep scree slopes toward Stella Point (5,745 meters) before continuing on to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), which is Kilimanjaro’s highest point. Reaching Uhuru Peak typically occurs between sunrise and mid-morning after an arduous climb lasting approximately 6-8 hours from Barafu. After celebrating at the summit and taking photos against breathtaking backdrops, climbers begin their descent back down toward Mweka Camp.
The final day of Kilimanjaro joining involves descending from Mweka Camp back down through lush rainforest trails leading back to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters). This descent takes about 3-5 hours depending on pace and conditions. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, climbers complete their trek by signing out officially while receiving certificates commemorating their successful ascent of Kilimanjaro—an achievement worth celebrating! Many groups then return to Moshi or Arusha for relaxation or further adventures in Tanzania
