At Mropean Safaris, we guide numerous expeditions on this trail every year, beginning in the lush tropical rainforests at the base of the mountain. After breakfast, you'll trek to Shira Camp, leaving the rainforest behind and entering the open moorlands. The stunning views of the Shira Plateau will be your reward. After reaching Shira Camp, you'll enjoy lunch and rest before taking an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower. This hike, with a 400-meter altitude gain, is crucial for a successful summit.
Note: The acclimatization hike is a gentle trek designed to help your body adjust to the altitude, increasing your chances of summiting Kilimanjaro.

Acclimatization hike: 1-2 hours, 2 km
Today, you'll trek to Lava Tower, the highest point on the route so far at 4,600 meters. The ascent involves some challenging sections, but spending time at this altitude is essential for acclimatization. After lunch at Lava Tower, you'll descend to Barranco Camp, where you'll be greeted by the imposing Barranco Wall, which you'll tackle tomorrow.
Trekking time: 6-8 hours
Distance: 11 km
Your day begins with an early ascent of Barranco Wall. Although it looks intimidating, the climb is straightforward and takes about an hour. Afterward, you'll continue trekking through the Karanga Valley, with its series of ascents and descents, before reaching Barafu Camp. After a warm lunch at Karanga Camp, you'll push on to Barafu Camp, where you'll have dinner and rest before the final summit push.
Trekking time: 8-10 hours

The summit push begins at night from Barafu Camp. While the climb is not technically difficult, the altitude makes it challenging. Each climber will be closely monitored by their guide to ensure their safety. Note: Most accidents happen during the descent, so be cautious. Pay attention to your footing to avoid injuries.

Distance: 15 km
After a good night's sleep at Millennium Camp, you'll enjoy breakfast and begin your final descent through the tropical rainforest to Mweka Gate.
