Short Kilimanjaro Trek

On this day trip, you will hike on the Marangu Route up to Mandara Hut for lunch. You will NOT reach the summit. All short treks are offered on a private basis, and you can start on any day of the year. The short treks are geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit isn't a "must do", and allow one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent. All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed.

Day 1: Hike to Mandara Hut and back to park gate

01

After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your guide, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about 1 hour), register and commence the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment. A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys. After lunch, hike back to park gate and drive back to Moshi.

Truly an outstanding experience

5/5

Booked a 4-day safari encompassing Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Were very responsive in all communication from the first contact and Salim, our tour designer, managed to book a custom package in accordance with our wishes on a very short notice. The accommodation was excellent throughout. Livingstone, our driver and guide, was simply phenomenal - he knows literally everything about the area and its flora and fauna and seemed to have a sixth sense about where to find the different species of animals.

Consequently, the tour never had a dull moment as there was always something new to see. We might have been lucky, but during a relatively short safari we saw cheetahs, leopards, lions, rhinos and a crocodile as well as the more numerous elephants, zebras and impalas. A particularly nice touch (which others have mentioned) is the warm lunch, which we enjoyed using metal plates, goblets and cutlery so no concerns about plastic waste :) In short - Budget Safaris Tanzania are professionals from start to finish and we had the trip of a lifetime.
