Altitude: From 3,960 meters (12,992 feet) to 4,035 meters (13,238 feet)

Start the day with a steep climb up the Barranco Wall, a challenging but exhilarating scramble.

Traverse the mountain's southern slopes, passing through alpine desert terrain.

Arrive at Karanga Camp, situated beneath the southern ice fields of Kilimanjaro.

Altitude: From 4,035 meters (13,238 feet) to 4,673 meters (15,331 feet)

Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.

The terrain becomes increasingly rocky and barren as you approach the campsite.

Rest and prepare for the summit push.

Camp overnight at Barafu Camp.

Altitude: From 4,673 meters (15,331 feet) to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) (Uhuru Peak), then descent to 3,100 meters (10,171 feet).

Start the summit attempt around midnight, ascending under the cover of darkness.

Reach Stella Point on the crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

Descend through the forest to Mweka Gate, where you'll sign out and receive your summit certificates.

Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
